CLC Neighborhood Picnic & Community Event

CLC Neighborhood Picnic & Community Event

95 folks attended our outdoor worship on Sunday, September 24th, after which we served up lunch to 78 members and 92 guests (including 22 J-town High students from ROTC and Beta Club, plus 6 members of the J-town Fire Department).

The kids enjoyed the giant inflatable obstacle course, touring the J-town fire truck, blowing bubbles, playing on the playground, and making art with sidewalk chalk. More fun was had with cornhole, giant Jenga and Connect 4, Bocce Ball, Bingo, and the Cake Walk. It was so nice to just sit outside, enjoying yet another beautiful September day, listening to music, laughing and visiting with one another.

Please take some time to thank the community groups who supported our event, such as Bud’s Tavern (who provided the pulled pork and chicken sandwiches), the groups from J-town high school (they were an impressive group of young men and women!), the J-town Fire Department, plus bingo prize donors Malibu Jacks, Kentucky Kingdom, the Popcorn Station, and Hwang’s Martial Arts.

This event was a true labor of love, and I cannot begin to thank everyone who helped make it happen! It all started back in July with a couple of questions posed to leaders of the Fellowship, Worship, Christian Ed, Youth Ministry, and Communication committees…What if we teamed up to do this? Will you help make it happen? Thank you to Bonnie Kroening, Becky Miller, Liz Dawson, Tracy Richardson, Liz Walker, and Pr Bimen for all saying yes that day back in July. From there, our group met regularly for the next two months, growing as more joined our efforts, adding their voices and labor to the planning—thank you, Rita Sarson, Sherri Hesler, Nancy Walsh, and Heather Harding for making us bigger and better. By the end, between planning, Saturday/Sunday setup, hosting and serving on Sunday, and teardown, I counted over 50 members who contributed to its success. Thank you all!!! I hope you had as much fun as I did, walking with Christ, loving and serving our church and our neighbors.
